Why men are not ready to pay child support

When ‘Dead Beat Kenya’ hit social media, some wicked baby mamas saw it as a godsent opportunity to name and shame their baby daddies.

Several women made all manner of allegations about some man who took French leave the moment he heard the words, “Baby, I am pregnant”.

Some the women on the Facebook page claim that their baby daddy or daddies vanished from the face of the earth; they wonder if they are still alive. Or if they died a long time ago. Some posted the supposed results of DNA tests. There are even posts of scans of alleged warrants for arrest. And another woman is actually “looking for a witch doctor to bewitch his nuts”!

Bunch of liars

Whereas, some of the women on the site are genuine and have resorted to ‘Dead Beat’ with no malice, some are just a bunch of liars and have been rightfully exposed by the men for their foolish attempts at maligning their names.

Some men did hit back with screenshots of MPesa transactions, as well as school receipts to prove that they have been supporting their baby mamas. Here is the thing, you simply cannot blame every man who has been accused of child neglect. Women today, have multiple partners and a man cannot be too sure.

Nowadays, a woman has at least three men who serve different purposes in their life. There is Tom for the money. Harry for the looks. And Dick for prowess in bed.

Now tell me, who among these men should take responsibility when even the mother of the child is not sure of who the actual father is?

Some women have become very cunning. Thus men have to be careful and wise. And if you doubt me, there is a genetic screening tool at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) that will soon save men who have been caring for children they never sired.

At the centre of the problem is sickle cell anaemia, which develops in children who inherit two defective genes from both parents. If a man who has always believed he is the father of such a child does not carry the defective gene, then it means he is not the biological father.

The problem started a few years ago when Kemri screened some 15,000 children in Kilifi for sickle cell disease. A dilemma arose when the researchers went back to share their findings with the community.

On learning that their children were positive, some fathers refused to accept it, demanding that they themselves be screened for the defective sickle cell gene. But unfortunately for them, screening for parentage was never part of their research protocol.

But dear friends and readers the suspicion had already been planted. It is in such a scenario that you have to understand why a guy might not be too eager to pay child support.
